Project Status:
DONE: Draft Proposal
Our initial proposal brought attention to the current state of the existing prefabricated park, and the opportunity to improve the facility with a poured-in-place concrete structure. Despite limited distribution, the proposal received over 50 community endorsements.
DONE: Town Preconsulation
The initial proposal received support from town administration. In initial meetings we discussed and resolved limitations with the site, the need for more park infrastructure, funding, and the role of the town and the skatepark committee as we move forward.
DONE: Conceptual Plan
We worked with Evergreen Skateparks to develop a conceptual plan for the park. The actual design will come after community input and site evaluation. The concept is intended to show the scale of park that is possible given the location and budget we have in mind.
DONE: Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)
We have partnered with the local mountain bike organization: Purple Valley NEMBA, a 501c3, to administer the project. NEMBA has received approval from the Williamstown Select Board to move forward with the project.
Done: Community Survey
Of the nearly 100 respondents to our survey, 96.5% stated that the skatepark project should be a priority for our community. Design feedback has been provided to Grindline.
Done: Request For Proposal
We issued an RFP and received bids from 4 design build firms. We are thrilled to have signed an agreement with one of the best firms in the business: Grindline Skateparks!
In Progress: Design
In mid September Grindline came to town for a planning meeting with the city, and a community feedback session. They are now in the process of reviewing these inputs and developing an initial design.
In Progress: Fitness Pad
As part of the overall park renovation, the town has begun construction on a fitness pad which will be located next to the half pipe.
Next Up: Corporate & Institutional Fundraising
We will be connecting with local businesses & institutions interested in aligning their brand with this important community project. We will be seeking tax deductible donations as well as in kind donations of materials & equipment.
Next Next Up: Construction
More to come!
